Term 2 DPA Online Logs

Grade 12s, most of you have completed your Healthy Living Plan, which was your Term One assignment for Graduation Transitions. Thank you! To those of you who have not yet completed this assignment, it is time to do so. See me in the Career Centre, or my classroom, if you have any questions about what you need to do for this. Also, if you are logging your Daily Physical Activity (DPA) minutes online, your Term One log has been approved, and you now need to open up a Term Two log. Just set it up the same way you set up your Term One log, and continue counting your minutes! If you are tracking your minutes on a paper calendar, then you should be part way through your December calendar. There are copies in the Career Centre, on the school website, or here on this blog, if you need one. Finally, your Term Two Graduation Transitions assignments are to complete your 30 Hours of Work Experience, and to complete your Transition Plan. If you still have your Planning 10 Career project saved on your computer, you can use that, with an update of the budget and your resume. If you can't find a copy of your project, then you will need to pick up a Transition Plan booklet from the Career Centre (or get one off the website, or here) and complete it. Remember to attach a current resume. See me if you need help figuring out a work experience placement. Enjoy your Winter Break!

Healthy Living Plan due November 27th

Grade 12s... your Healthy Living Plan is due by November 27th. For many of you, completing this assignment will be quite simple. You just need to come to the Career Centre, pick up your Active Health 10 Project from your Graduation Transitions folder, read it over, and complete three questions on the cover sheet you can pick up from Ms. Arbia. If you do not have your Active Health 10 project, then you need to complete the booklet available on this blog, on the school website, or in the Career Centre. Many of you have already completed this assignment... good work! Please let me know if you have any questions about this assignment, or any other aspect of Graduation Transitions.

October DPA calendars (online or paper) are due tomorrow, October 31st. You can drop off your completed paper calendar to the Career Centre (put in the Student Drop-off Box) and pick up your November calendar at the same time. If you are not sure how to do this, please see me in the Career Centre or room 208, or email me at Jenifer.Barsky@sd41.bc.ca.

Welcome Back!

Hello Grade 12s! Welcome back to school, and welcome to my Graduation Transitions Program blog. You should be able to find answers to most questions here, as well as find any handouts you might need in order to complete your Graduation Transitions Program requirements. There is a very important assembly for all grade 12 students on Wednesday October 8th. At this assembly, I will be explaining the Graduation Transitions Program in detail, and answering any questions you might have about the program. You should bring the purple "Student Checklist" you received from Ms. Jackson to the assembly, as I will speak to each point on the checklist, during the assembly. Also, you will need to start logging your Daily Physical Activity (DPA) minutes as of Wednesday October 1st. No September log will be necessary this year. You are welcome to log your DPA minutes on a paper calendar, if you like. These calendars can be found on the school website, under "Graduation Transitions," on this blog, or in the Career Centre. Or, you may wish to log your DPA minutes online. If that is your preference, you need to set up an account at www.learnnowbc.ca. You need to complete a separate log for each of the three terms. Do not complete one log for the entire year. If you have any questions or concerns about the program, I am your advisor this year. You can find me in the Career Centre during blocks 6 and 7, or in room 208 most other blocks. You are welcome to book an appointment to see me during lunch or after school. Please see Ms. Arbia in the Career Centre to book a time. Or, you can always email me at Jenifer.Barsky@sd41.bc.ca. I'm looking forward to working with each of you this year!

Exit Interviews

Grade 12s, congratulations on the completion of your Exit Interviews! For many of you, your Graduation Transitions program is almost complete. I will be putting your interview assessment in the "Student Pick Up" folder in the Career Centre if you would like to read the feedback from your interviewer. Once you have looked at your assessment rubric, you can either return it to the folder or give it to Ms. Stanley, the office assistant, so it can be moved to your Graduation Transitions folder. If you missed your interview, stay tuned for information about when they will take place. Please see me if you have any questions about making up your missed interview.

Grads, your Transition Plan is due at the end of this month! Some of you have already completed this assignment and submitted it to me - thank you! Those of you who have not yet completed this assignment, please ensure that you pick up a copy of the booklet or download a copy here. Be aware that you are expected to attach a current resume to this Transition Plan, as well. If you still have a copy of your Planning 10 Career Project, you just need to update the budget and your resume, and add a cover page, before you submit your paperwork. If you are unsure how to complete this booklet, please email me or come see me in the Career Centre.

Exit Interview Information

I have been visiting all of the English 12/Communications 12 classes this past week, and I have distributed a one page handout detailing the exit interview process. The handout is meant to explain the process of the interview to you, and hopefully it will set your mind at ease about the experience. Please note that ALL interviews are scheduled for Thursday March 13th, 2014. See me if you have a conflict and are unable to interview on this day. I have included a link to the handout at the side, for those of you who are not enrolled in an English 12/Communications 12 course. Please see me if you have any questions about the exit interviews. Please note that I will assign your specific appointment time closer to the date of the interviews.
